Ford Car Key Replacement: Keys, Fobs, Transponders, and Smart Keys We Handle
Ford has used several distinct key technologies across its model lineup over the decades, and knowing which type your vehicle uses is the first step toward getting back on the road. Older Ford F-Series trucks and classic Mustangs used basic mechanical keys with no electronic component — these can be cut on-site from a code or by reading your existing key. Starting in the mid-1990s, Ford introduced transponder chip keys, where a small microchip embedded in the key head must be programmed to match your vehicle's immobilizer system before the engine will start. If the chip is absent or unrecognized, the engine will crank but not fire — a frustrating and often misdiagnosed problem.
Remote fobs and integrated flip keys followed, combining a transponder with lock and unlock buttons. Later Ford models — including recent Escape, Explorer, and Edge trims — use proximity smart keys (Ford calls them Intelligent Access keys) that allow push-button starting when the fob is simply in your pocket. Each step up in technology requires more sophisticated programming equipment, which our mobile units carry. We handle the full spectrum: basic cut keys, transponder keys, remote-head keys, flip keys, proximity fobs, and Intelligent Access smart keys — all made on-site, with no need to tow your vehicle anywhere.
